Mystic Carvers

Mystic Carvers Club meets on the last Sunday of every month. Special events and holidays will move that date from one Sunday to another occasionally.

2024 promises to be an active woodcarving seminar year. Plans are underway to offer a variety of classes in woodcarving and painting. Stay tuned as plans develop for the following:

JANUARY 12-14th BIG E WOOD SHOW

Mystic Carvers Club and the New England Woodcarvers club plan to set up an area to demonstrate the art of woodcarving. A "woodcarving for youths" session will be offered on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1 pm - 3pm. Everything needed will be supplied at no cost. Basic carving tools plus wood and safety guidelines will be demonstrated. Also common cuts with a knife (such as paring cuts, push and levering cuts, "V" cuts, stop cuts and score lines) will be demonstrated. There will be several small carving projects set up for practice. Club members are encouraged to sign up for shifts to staff our booth. This has always been a fun weekend.

FEBRUARY 7th, 2024 ONE DAY SEMINAR "CARVING A BEAR" WITH WARREN BLESSING

This bear project will be good for all level carvers. This seminar will be held at the Mystic Firehouse on Feb. 7th beginning at 9 a.m. Cost is $30.00. Please contact Warren at ctvalleywc@gmail.com or call 860-656-4587 if interested.

APRIL 12 AND 14, 2024 CARVING SANTA WITH WAYNE SMITH

This class will also be held at the Mystic Firehouse. Cost of the rough out is $25.00 and the cost of the class is $30.00. This project will be pained with Chris O'Dea at the July Mystic Club meeting. The cost of the painting class is still to be determined.

May 3rd, 4th and 5th Bob Stadtlander will offer a relief carving class at the firehouse.

The cost of the class will be $150. Carvers may choose their project from a list of items he has on his website.

Please contact Ed Ertel in advance to register and to let him know which project you would like to work on so Bob knows which to bring to CT.

JUNE 8-9TH, 2024 CARVING A REALISTIC ANIMAL BUST WITH WAYNE SMITH

Wayne returns to the Mystic Firehouse to offer a class in carving a realistic animal bust. There will be three animal heads to chose from. The cost of this 2 day class is $40. Please check with Carol for the cost of the animal rough out. (This class is full).
